Product Overview
The California Republic (Bear) Flag is a powerful symbol of early California history, first raised in Sonoma on June 14, 1846, during the Bear Flag Revolt. Designed by William Todd on unbleached cotton, the flag features a grizzly bear, representing strength and the wildlife of the region, alongside a single red star inspired by the Texas “Lone Star.” The words “California Republic” appear beneath, marking the short-lived independence movement before California came under U.S. control.
This historic flag was later preserved by the Society of California Pioneers, but was tragically destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire. In 1911, the design was officially adopted as the State Flag of California, cementing its legacy.
Crafted from durable nylon with a digitally reproduced imprint and sewn construction, this flag delivers vivid, long-lasting color and reliable performance. 100% Made in the USA, it’s ideal for historical displays, educational use, state pride, or decorative settings.
